The Crown TowerKorunná veža
The tallest and oldest of the four corners, and the only one with a name of its own. From the middle of the sixteenth century until the late eighteenth the Hungarian crown jewels were kept inside it, guarded here while the kings themselves were crowned in the cathedral below. It can be climbed, and the stairs deliver the widest view on the hill — river, town, plain and border in one sweep.Najvyššia a najstaršia zo štyroch nárožných veží a jediná s vlastným menom. Od polovice šestnásteho do konca osemnásteho storočia sa v nej uchovávali uhorské korunovačné klenoty, strážené tu, kým samotných kráľov korunovali v katedrále pod hradom. Dá sa na ňu vystúpiť a schody odmenia najširším rozhľadom na kopci — rieka, mesto, rovina i hranica v jedinom zábere.
The excavations undergroundVykopávky v podzemí
The most surprising part of the castle is under it. Excavation on the summit reached the Celtic oppidum, material of the Roman period and the foundations of a Great Moravian stone church, and an underground exhibition presents part of what was found. Exactly which sections are open varies with the museum’s programme, so treat it as a bonus rather than a guarantee.Najprekvapivejšia časť hradu je pod ním. Výskum na temene kopca sa dostal ku keltskému oppidu, k nálezom z rímskeho obdobia a k základom veľkomoravského kamenného kostola; podzemná expozícia časť týchto nálezov sprístupňuje. Ktoré úseky sú práve otvorené, závisí od programu múzea, takže to berte skôr ako bonus než ako istotu.
The Museum of HistoryHistorické múzeum
The reconstructed interiors house the Museum of History of the Slovak National Museum, with the Treasury among its exhibitions. The single most famous object associated with the collections is the Venus of Moravany, a small palaeolithic figurine — but exhibitions rotate and loans travel, so do not plan a visit around seeing one particular piece.V obnovených interiéroch sídli Historické múzeum Slovenského národného múzea a medzi jeho expozíciami je aj Klenotnica. Najznámejším predmetom spájaným so zbierkami je Moravianska venuša, drobná paleolitická soška — expozície sa však obmieňajú a predmety cestujú na výpožičky, takže si návštevu neplánujte kvôli jednému konkrétnemu exponátu.
The Baroque gardenBaroková záhrada
On the far side from the river, the formal garden was laid out again in recent years following the historical plan: geometric parterres, low clipped hedges, gravel walks and fountains, with the white walls closing one end of it. It is free to walk and it is the quietest corner of the whole hill — most day visitors never come round to it.Na odvrátenej strane od rieky bola v posledných rokoch podľa historického plánu obnovená francúzska záhrada: geometrické parterre, nízke strihané živé ploty, štrkové chodníky a fontány, pričom jeden jej koniec uzatvárajú biele múry. Je voľne prístupná a je to najtichší kút celého kopca — väčšina jednodňových návštevníkov sa sem vôbec nedostane.
The view southVýhľad na juh
From the southern terrace the Danube runs straight below you, with the high-rise panel estates of Petržalka on the far bank and the Most SNP and its saucer-shaped restaurant tower cutting across the water.
