In 1890 the scattered settlements above Detva asked to be separated from it. The Hungarian Ministry of the Interior gave permission on 21 October 1890, and the county assembly of Zvolen approved the founding charter on 5 September 1891, as document number 322/1891. The new municipality of Hriňová began with roughly six thousand inhabitants spread across many hamlets — the population of a small town, living in a shape no town has. A state registry office opened on 1 October 1895, which is when births, marriages and deaths here started being recorded by the state and not only by the churches.V roku 1890 požiadali roztrúsené osady nad Detvou o osamostatnenie. Uhorské ministerstvo vnútra to povolilo 21. októbra 1890 a zvolenský stoličný výbor schválil zakladajúcu listinu 5. septembra 1891 pod číslom 322/1891. Nová obec Hriňová začínala so zhruba šesťtisíc obyvateľmi roztrúsenými po množstve osád — s ľudnatosťou menšieho mesta, no v tvare, aký nijaké mesto nemá. 1. októbra 1895 tu otvorili štátny matričný úrad, čiže odvtedy narodenia, sobáše a úmrtia zapisoval štát, nielen cirkvi.
