There are no furnished rooms and no display cases here, so the interest is entirely in the stone: what was built, what fell, and — more and more visibly — what has been put back. The heart of the place and the highest point of the walk: the palace block, roofless, with its floors long gone and window openings looking straight through to the sky, and the tall keep beside it. Lietava is not one enclosure but several, strung down the crest: bailey behind bailey, each closed by its own gate and its own run of curtain wall. A crest this high has no spring, so the castle drank rain: the cisterns cut into the living rock are as much a part of the fortress as the walls, and they are the first thing a garrison would have worried about. Nothing of it is on display — but knowing it was here changes how the walls look. The Thurzós kept the family archive at Lietava rather than at comfortable Bytča, because charters, deeds and title were the family’s real wealth, and this crest was the safest box they owned.Nič z neho tu nie je vystavené — ale vedomie, že tu bol, mení pohľad na tie múry. Look at the wall tops. Where the masonry is capped flat and neatly pointed, that is recent work done by hand to keep frost and water out of the core; where a vault has been closed again over a doorway, that is a rebuild. Once you have your eye in you see it across the whole complex — and you understand that the ruin is not simply surviving, it is being held.Pozrite sa na koruny múrov.
