The approach is unusual, and it is the best thing about arriving here. You cross earthworks — grassy angular banks and the line of a moat, the geometry of a seventeenth-century military engineer — and then in the middle of them find a pale baroque palace front with a cupola. Fortress ground, palace building. Nowhere else in Slovakia gives you that collision so plainly.Príchod je nezvyčajný a je na ňom to najlepšie. Prejdete valy — trávnaté lomené násypy a líniu priekopy, geometriu vojenského inžiniera sedemnásteho storočia — a uprostred nich zrazu nájdete svetlé barokové palácové priečelie s kupolou. Pevnostný terén, palácová stavba. Nikde inde na Slovensku túto zrážku neuvidíte tak názorne.
Inside, the château has been through long restoration and the picture changes from year to year: some rooms and the chapel have been brought back, others are still bare or closed, and what is shown depends on what stage the work has reached. The courtyard and the exterior are the constant. It is worth asking at the ticket point exactly which route is running before you commit your afternoon.Vnútri prešiel zámok dlhou obnovou a obraz sa mení rok od roka: časť miestností a kaplnka sú vrátené do pôvodného stavu, iné sú ešte holé alebo zatvorené a to, čo je sprístupnené, závisí od toho, kam sa práce dostali. Stálicou sú nádvorie a exteriér. Oplatí sa pri vstupe opýtať, ktorá trasa práve funguje, skôr než tomu venujete celé popoludnie.
Then walk out to the manor farm. The estate buildings — granaries, stables, ranges of working sheds under long gabled roofs — were laid out to supply an imperial household, and they are architecture in their own right rather than sheds behind a big house. Part of the complex has been restored and put back into use. Beyond them, on the edge of the town, stands the windmill: a squat stone cylinder, one of the very few of its kind left in Slovakia.Potom vyjdite k majeru. Hospodárske budovy — sýpky, stajne, rady prevádzkových prístreškov pod dlhými sedlovými strechami — boli rozvrhnuté tak, aby zásobovali cisársku domácnosť, a sú architektúrou samy osebe, nie kôlňami za veľkým domom. Časť areálu je obnovená a vrátená do života. Za nimi, na okraji mesta, stojí veterný mlyn: podsaditý kamenný valec, jeden z mála, ktoré na Slovensku zostali.
