You come up from the town through the castle park, an old landscaped park of tall trees that wraps the whole hill, and the building only assembles itself as you get close: first a roofline through branches, then a wall, then the entire west front at once. The moat holds real water, and the bridge across it is the only way in. Look up as you cross — the towers are deliberately unequal in height and girth, which is exactly why the silhouette reads as a fairy tale rather than a barracks.Od mesta prichádzate cez zámocký park, starý krajinársky park vysokých stromov, ktorý obopína celý kopec, a stavba sa poskladá až celkom zblízka: najprv strecha medzi konármi, potom múr a naraz celé západné priečelie. Inside is a courtyard rather than a hall, with the famous lime tree to one side and the mouth of a very deep well shaft sunk into the rock. From here the guided route climbs into the state rooms — panelled, hung, furnished, and far darker and more Gothic in feeling than the pale exterior leads you to expect — through the Golden Hall under its carved and gilded ceiling, and on into the chapel, where Pálfi’s Italian altarpiece hangs.Vnútri je nádvorie, nie hala — s povestnou lipou na jednej strane a s ústím veľmi hlbokej studne vyhĺbenej do skaly. Odtiaľ vedie prehliadková trasa hore do reprezentačných miestností — obložených, ovešaných a zariadených, oveľa tmavších a gotickejších, než by svetlý exteriér naznačoval — cez Zlatú sálu pod vyrezávaným a pozláteným stropom a ďalej do kaplnky, kde visí Pálfiho taliansky oltár.
Then the route goes down. The hill is travertine, and under the courtyard there is a natural cave, entered from inside the castle and included in the visit — cool, damp and unmistakably geological after an hour of gilding and tapestry. You come back out onto a terrace with the town spread below you, the spa woods to one side and the long grey wall of the Strážovské vrchy closing the horizon.Potom trasa klesá. Kopec je travertínový a pod nádvorím sa otvára prírodná jaskyňa, do ktorej sa vchádza zvnútra zámku a ktorá je súčasťou prehliadky — chladná, vlhká a nezameniteľne geologická po hodine zlata a gobelínov. Von vyjdete na terasu, pod ktorou leží mesto, po boku kúpeľné lesy a obzor uzatvára dlhá sivá stena Strážovských vrchov.
