You start in the village, which is worth ten minutes of its own — Beckov has a proper old core of low houses and a church, and the rock hangs over all of it. The path to the castle leaves from the foot of the crag and climbs by steps and switchbacks to the gate, a short but honestly steep few minutes. There is no shade on the rock.Začnete v dedine, ktorá si zaslúži svojich desať minút — Beckov má poriadne staré jadro nízkych domov a kostol a nad tým všetkým visí skala. Chodník k hradu odbočuje na päte brala a stúpa po schodoch a serpentínach k bráne: pár minút krátkych, ale poctivo strmých. Na skale nie je tieň.
Inside the gate the ruin opens out. Because nothing has been roofed again, you read the castle the way a builder would: the lower ward with its curtain wall and cistern, the ramp up into the upper castle, the shells of the palace ranges with their fireplace flues still striped up the masonry, and the tall wall stumps where floors used to be. Steel walkways and railings carry the visitor route across the gaps, and one of them takes you out onto the very lip of the crag.Za bránou sa zrúcanina otvorí. Keďže nič nebolo znovu zastrešené, čítate hrad tak, ako by ho čítal murár: dolné nádvorie s hradbou a cisternou, rampa do horného hradu, holé múry palácových krídel s komínovými prieduchmi stále vykreslenými v murive a vysoké pahýle stien tam, kde bývali podlahy. Návštevnícku trasu vedú ponad prielomy oceľové lávky a zábradlia a jedna z nich vás vyvedie priamo na okraj brala.
The best surviving detail is the castle chapel, built in Stibor’s time, where fragments of medieval wall painting still cling to the plaster. And then there is the view, which is the whole point of the place: the Váh plain laid out flat below, the White Carpathians opposite, and on a clear day the ridge to the north-east where Čachtice sits on its own hill.Najlepšie zachovaným detailom je hradná kaplnka zo Stiborových čias, kde sa na omietke ešte držia fragmenty stredovekej nástennej maľby. A potom je tu výhľad, pre ktorý sa sem vlastne chodí: povážska rovina rozprestretá dolu, Biele Karpaty oproti a za jasného dňa hrebeň na severovýchode, kde na vlastnom kopci sedia Čachtice.
