The chapel built by the castle’s Renaissance owners is the finest room here and among the most admired late-Renaissance chapel interiors in Slovakia: a coffered and stuccoed ceiling, carved fittings, and a scale that feels private rather than public. Because the town owns the castle, the museum inside it is a town museum — guild chests and craft tools, burgher rooms, weapons, and the archaeology of the church and hospital the castle was built on top of. Kežmarok’s Evangelical articular church, raised in the early eighteenth century under laws that dictated where and how Protestants could build, is a timber building of astonishing size and painted decoration, inscribed by UNESCO with Slovakia’s other wooden churches. The Thököly MausoleumTökölyho mauzóleum
The rebel prince Imrich Thököly died in exile in Ottoman territory. In 1906 his remains were brought back to the town of his birth and laid in a mausoleum inside the large Evangelical church next to the wooden one — the end of the story the castle begins.Povstalecké knieža Imrich Tököly zomrelo vo vyhnanstve na osmanskom území. V roku 1906 jeho pozostatky priviezli späť do rodného mesta a uložili do mauzólea vo veľkom evanjelickom kostole vedľa dreveného — koniec príbehu, ktorý sa začína na hrade.
