Europa is not one building but a deliberate pair. In front, filling the site sideways, is the retail block: long, low and emphatically horizontal, a slab that lies down along the street rather than competing with anything. Behind it, rising straight out of the same footprint, is the Europa Business Center — a slender glass office tower, one of the tallest things in Banská Bystrica and a fixed point on the city's skyline. The tower is the vertical counterweight to the block, and that relationship is the whole architectural idea. Take either half away and the other stops making sense.Europa nie je jedna budova, ale zámerná dvojica. Vpredu, roztiahnutý po celej šírke pozemku, leží obchodný blok: dlhý, nízky a dôrazne vodorovný, doska, ktorá sa uloží pozdĺž ulice a s ničím nesúperí. Za ním, priamo z tej istej stopy, sa dvíha Europa Business Center — štíhla sklenená administratívna veža, jedna z najvyšších stavieb v Banskej Bystrici a pevný bod v panoráme mesta. Veža je zvislou protiváhou bloku a práve tento vzťah je celá architektonická myšlienka. Odoberte ktorúkoľvek polovicu a tá druhá stratí zmysel.

When the two of them together took Stavba roka in 2009, the jury's praise ran along exactly those lines: a structurally bold building, designed with some sensitivity to what was around it, and unusually restrained in its use of colour — which, for a genre that normally shouts in primaries, is the compliment that matters. Inside, the experience is the familiar one of a well-lit atrium: galleries on more than one level looking down into a central void, escalators crossing it as diagonals, and daylight coming in from above through the curved glazed roof, so that you generally know what the weather is doing outside. Parking is on the roof and underground, which is what lets the block stay as low and as tidy as it does at ground level — the cars are stacked above and below rather than spread across an apron of asphalt out front.Keď obe stavby spolu získali v roku 2009 Stavbu roka, chvála poroty smerovala presne týmto smerom: konštrukčne odvážna budova, navrhnutá s citom pre to, čo je okolo nej, a nezvyčajne zdržanlivá vo farebnosti — čo je pri žánri, ktorý inak kričí základnými farbami, ten najpodstatnejší kompliment. Vnútri je to známy zážitok dobre presvetleného átria: galérie na viacerých podlažiach hľadia do stredového priestoru, eskalátory ho pretínajú ako uhlopriečky a zhora, cez zaoblenú presklenú strechu, prichádza denné svetlo, takže väčšinou viete, aké je vonku počasie. Parkuje sa na streche a v podzemí, a práve vďaka tomu ostáva blok na úrovni terénu taký nízky a uprataný — autá sú naskladané nad ním a pod ním, nie rozliate po asfaltovej ploche pred ním.
