Muráň is a hike, not a stop. The marked trail leaves the village of Muráň and climbs steadily through beech and spruce for well over an hour before the gradient gets serious. The last stretch onto the crag is steep and rocky, with hands occasionally involved and a surface that is genuinely slippery in wet weather. What waits at the top is honestly described as fragments. Muráň is a ruin in the strong sense: gateways, wall stubs, cistern hollows, terraces cut into rock, with very little standing high.
