Turiec — the county castleTuriec — stoličný hrad

Sklabiňa: Where a County Was GovernedSklabiňa: odkiaľ sa spravovala stolica

For centuries this was not simply a castle but an administration — the seat from which the county of Turiec was run, its assemblies held and its records kept, under the hereditary lieutenancy of the Révay family. It survived the Middle Ages, the Ottoman century and the Habsburg wars, and was then burnt out in 1944. Since the 2000s volunteers have been putting it back, one wall-head at a time.
