Ask an older Trenčín resident what is on this corner of Štefánikova and a surprising number will still answer Borovičková. Long before the centre, the site carried the town's juniper-spirit and liqueur works — a distillery already operating in the first half of the twentieth century, later folded into the state manufacturing and warehousing of the socialist decades but never quite losing its industrial character. Local memory of it is not architectural at all. Dávno pred obchodným centrom stála na tomto mieste mestská borovičková a likérová továreň — liehovar, ktorý fungoval už v prvej polovici dvadsiateho storočia a v socialistických desaťročiach sa rozplynul do štátnej výroby a skladov, no priemyselný charakter tak celkom nestratil. Miestna pamäť naň nie je vôbec architektonická. Je to vôňa: v určité dni celá štvrť vedela, čo sa v továrni práve robí.
The old complex was cleared in the middle of the 2000s and the centre went up on the levelled ground; it opened to its first visitors in December 2005. In 2014 it was closed down section by section and rebuilt over roughly half a year, coming back with a reworked interior and a new face to the street. The result is a centre that behaves quite differently from the regional box out at Belá: it is embedded in the town, reached on foot as often as by car, and it leans on cinema and eating as much as on shopping. That is what a zábavno-obchodné centrum — an entertainment-and-shopping centre — is supposed to mean, and here the label is earned.Starý areál v polovici dvadsiatych rokov nového storočia zbúrali a na vyrovnanom pozemku vyrástlo obchodné centrum; prvých návštevníkov privítalo v decembri 2005. V roku 2014 ho po častiach zavreli a zhruba za pol roka prestavali; vrátilo sa s prepracovaným interiérom a novou tvárou do ulice. Výsledkom je centrum, ktoré sa správa celkom inak než regionálna hala v Belej: je votkané do mesta, chodí sa doň pešo rovnako často ako autom a opiera sa o kino a gastro nemenej než o nákupy. Presne to má znamenať zábavno-obchodné centrum — a tu si ten názov zaslúži.
