Galéria Mlyny

Nitra's principal shopping centre stands on Štefánikova trieda, the city's main boulevard, a few minutes on foot from the pedestrian zone and within sight of the castle hill. Its name is not marketing: mlyny means mills, and the mills really were here — a riverside milling works whose oldest part went up in the 1860s and which ground grain from the Nitra plain until the early 1990s. What replaced them, in 2009, is one of the very few Slovak malls that sits in the middle of its town rather than out beyond the bypass.Hlavné nákupné centrum Nitry stojí na Štefánikovej triede, hlavnom mestskom bulvári, pár minút chôdze od pešej zóny a na dohľad od hradného kopca. Jeho meno nie je marketing: mlyny tu naozaj boli — mlynský areál pri rieke, ktorého najstaršia časť vyrástla v šesťdesiatych rokoch devätnásteho storočia a ktorý mlel obilie z nitrianskej roviny až do začiatku deväťdesiatych rokov. To, čo ich v roku 2009 nahradilo, patrí k tým veľmi zriedkavým slovenským centrám, ktoré stoja uprostred svojho mesta, a nie až za obchvatom.
