The county gazetteer names them, together with the Turkish raids, as the reason Sebechleby never prospered. But the same century changed what the chambers on the hill were for. Vine-growing spread through this warm, dry corner of Hont in the sixteen-hundreds, and a room cut in tuff holds a steady cool temperature all year round — exactly what a barrel of wine wants.
