The building is the work of the Bratislava practice Šebo Lichý — Tomáš Šebo and Igor Lichý, with Nora Vranová, Emanuel Zatlukaj, Imrich Vaško, Branislav Groch and Aleš Hradecký. The case they made for it was urban rather than commercial, and they made it explicitly: that a building here could extend the public space of the central square southwards, absorb and screen the visual impact of the road viaduct, and re-establish a continuous pedestrian route from the southern approach up into the square. Then there is the façade, which is the best thing here by a distance. It carries a large mosaic abstracting the motifs of Dominik Skutecký's 1889 painting Trh v Banskej Bystrici — The Market in Banská Bystrica, the canvas with a woman under a bright red parasol at its centre. Thousands of small tiles reduce the scene to fields of colour, and the parasol survives the abstraction intact: it is the red shape you pick out from the far side of the junction, before you can read anything else on the wall. This is a deliberate reincarnation of the marketplace that used to stand on this ground.A potom je tu fasáda, ktorá je tu zďaleka najlepšia. Whether the rest of the urban argument fully comes off is a fair thing to judge with your own feet. A viaduct is a hard thing to screen, and a square is a hard thing to stretch. What is not in doubt is that the walk from the southern approach into the centre is now a continuous one, and that it passes a wall with a market on it.Či zvyšok mestotvorného argumentu naozaj vychádza, je otázka, ktorú je namieste posúdiť vlastnými nohami.
