The building is deliberately quiet about itself: a broad contemporary block of glass and pale cladding with a long glazed front, addressing the square rather than turning its back on it. That orientation is the whole trick. Because the main entrances face the paving, most people arrive here on foot, from the square — the way you would arrive at a shop on a high street, not across an asphalt field from a slip road. Inside it behaves like most centres of its generation: an internal street with escalators carrying you between the levels, shopfronts on both sides, and daylight dropping in from the glazing over the circulation, so the middle of the building never quite loses touch with the weather outside. The floor worth climbing to is the top one, where the food court and the cinema sit. That is the level with the window wall, and the view from it — out over the roofs of Zvolen to the wooded hills that close the basin — is better than a shopping centre has any right to expect.
