You see the whole building at once, which is unusual here. Most Slovak castles make you climb for an hour and then reveal themselves in fragments; Vígľaš stands on a low rise in the middle of its village, and from the road you get the entire silhouette in a single view — the closed block of wings, the tall roofs, the corner towers rising clear above the ridge of the roofline, and behind it all the wooded bulk of Poľana. Up close, the thing to understand is that almost everything you are looking at is new work over old walls. The roofs, the render, the window frames, the caps on the towers — all of it went back on during the reconstruction; the masonry underneath is the old castle. Inside the quadrangle lies the courtyard, the heart of the plan and the reason the building holds together as one shape. But the interiors now belong to a working hotel, and a visitor who has arranged nothing sees the outside: the walls, the towers, the terraces and the grounds, and the view back down the valley. That is not a small thing to see — but it is worth knowing before you drive out.Zblízka treba pochopiť jedno: takmer všetko, na čo sa pozeráte, je nová práca na starých múroch. Strechy, omietky, okenné rámy, prilby veží — to všetko sa vrátilo počas obnovy; murivo pod tým je starý zámok. Vnútri štvoruholníka leží nádvorie, jadro celej dispozície a dôvod, prečo stavba drží pokope ako jeden tvar. Interiéry však dnes patria fungujúcemu hotelu a návštevník, ktorý si nič nedohodol, uvidí vonkajšok: múry, veže, terasy a areál a výhľad späť do doliny. Nie je to málo — ale je dobré vedieť to skôr, než sa vyberiete na cestu.
