The village at the foot of the rock is called Revištské Podzámčie — literally, the place under the castle — and it tells you exactly how the walk starts. A marked path leaves the village and climbs the shoulder of the rock; it is short, steep in patches, and over almost before you have settled into it. What you find at the top is a compact upper castle with a tall residential block, wrapped by the remains of a lower ward. The masonry is in visibly different states: original core, older repairs, and recent conservation with clean new mortar joints and capped wall-heads.
