Wide and Low, With the Water Behind ItŠiroké a nízke, s vodou za chrbtom
Where a city-centre mall has to go upwards, a centre in a basin town can afford to lie down. Tulip is broad and low — a single main shopping level running the length of the building with a wide surface car park in front of it, which is what almost everybody who comes here actually wants, because almost everybody arrives by car from somewhere else in the Turiec. Circulation is a straight mall rather than a stack of galleries; you can see most of the way from one end to the other, and it is genuinely hard to get lost.Kým centrum v jadre mesta musí rásť do výšky, centrum v kotlinovom meste si môže dovoliť ležať. Tulip je široký a nízky — jedno hlavné nákupné podlažie po celej dĺžke budovy a pred ním rozľahlé povrchové parkovisko, čo je presne to, čo tu takmer každý naozaj chce, pretože takmer každý prichádza autom odinakiaľ z Turca. Pohyb vedie po rovnej pasáži, nie po naskladaných galériách; z jedného konca dovidíte takmer na druhý a stratiť sa je tu naozaj ťažké.
The two additions that matter came later. A multiplex was built in 2018 and gave the building an evening as well as an afternoon. And on the river side there is an outdoor area beside the Turiec — grass, benches, room to sit — which turns what would otherwise be a service yard into the reason to come in summer with children. Slovak shopping centres of this generation almost never bothered with the back of the building. This one did, and it is the single most likeable thing about it.Dve podstatné veci pribudli neskôr. V roku 2018 postavili multiplex, ktorý budove pridal k popoludniu aj večer. A na riečnej strane vznikol vonkajší priestor pri Turci — tráva, lavičky, miesto na sedenie — ktorý z toho, čo by inak bol hospodársky dvor, robí dôvod prísť v lete s deťmi. Slovenské obchodné centrá tejto generácie sa zadnou stranou budovy takmer nikdy nezaoberali. Toto áno, a je to na ňom to najsympatickejšie.
