Round the Rocks from Súľov-HradnáOkolo skál zo Súľova-Hradnej
The walk starts in the village. From Súľov-Hradná a well-marked circuit of a few hours loops out through the reserve and back, taking in the gorge, the rock formations, the castle ruin and a viewpoint — and it is one of the most popular family walks in Slovakia. That popularity is worth planning around: at weekends, and right through the autumn colour, you will be sharing the narrow bits.Prechádzka sa začína v obci. Zo Súľova-Hradnej vedie dobre značený okruh na pár hodín, ktorý sa preplieta rezerváciou a vracia sa späť — po ceste minie tiesňavu, skalné útvary, hradnú zrúcaninu aj vyhliadku — a patrí k najobľúbenejším rodinným túram na Slovensku. S tou obľubou treba rátať: cez víkendy a počas celej jesennej farebnosti sa o úzke miesta budete deliť s ostatnými.
The first act is the Súľovská tiesňava. The walls draw in until the sky is a strip, the stream noise doubles off the rock, and at one narrow point the path is carried on fixed metal steps and a ladder bolted straight to the stone. It is short — a couple of minutes of hands-on climbing — and it is the part children talk about afterwards. In the wet, or after a frost, the metal and the polished rock underfoot are genuinely slippery.Prvým dejstvom je Súľovská tiesňava. Steny sa stiahnu, až z oblohy zostane pás, šum potoka sa od skaly zdvojnásobí a na jednom úzkom mieste vedie chodník po pevných kovových stupačkách a rebríku ukotvených priamo do kameňa. Je to krátke — pár minút liezania s rukami — a práve o tom deti potom rozprávajú. Za mokra alebo po mraze sú však kov aj vyhladený kameň pod nohami naozaj šmykľavé.
Above the gorge the maze opens out. Towers stand free of the hillside, needles lean at angles that look temporary, and the path threads between them past the Gotická brána, the natural arch that everyone photographs. The ruin comes later and quieter — a turning you can walk straight past if you are not watching for it, then a short pull up to fragments of wall and rock-cut footings with the whole reserve spread out below. Finish at the viewpoint and drop back down to the village.Nad tiesňavou sa labyrint otvorí. Veže stoja voľne mimo svahu, ihly sa nakláňajú v uhloch, ktoré pôsobia dočasne, a chodník sa medzi nimi prepletá popri Gotickej bráne, prírodnom oblúku, ktorý fotografuje každý. Zrúcanina príde neskôr a tichšie — odbočka, ktorú ľahko prejdete, ak ju nečakáte, a potom krátke stúpanie k zvyškom múrov a do skaly vytesaným lôžkam, s celou rezerváciou rozprestretou pod vami. Zakončite to na vyhliadke a zíďte späť do obce.
