What followed the Uprising is what the memorials in central Slovakia are for: German Einsatzkommando 14 and the Hlinka Guard Emergency Divisions hunted down insurgents and anyone who had helped them. At Kremnička, outside Banská Bystrica, 747 people were shot into anti-tank ditches on nine separate days between 5 November 1944 and 19 February 1945. At Nemecká, between 4 and 11 January 1945, roughly 900 people were shot and their bodies burned in a limestone kiln — roughly, because the burning is the reason nobody can count them exactly. On Sunday 21 January 1945 the Edelweiss unit, with Slovak collaborators, killed 148 civilians in the villages of Ostrý Grúň and Kľak, 48 of them children under eighteen, and burned both villages down. Dozens of Slovak villages were destroyed in those months. To, čo prišlo po povstaní, je presne to, čomu sú venované pamätníky na strednom Slovensku: nemecké Einsatzkommando 14 a pohotovostné oddiely Hlinkovej gardy vyhľadávali povstalcov a každého, kto im pomohol. V Kremničke pri Banskej Bystrici zastrelili do protitankových zákopov 747 ľudí, a to v deviatich dňoch medzi 5. novembrom 1944 a 19. februárom 1945. V Nemeckej od 4. do 11. januára 1945 zastrelili asi 900 ľudí a ich telá spálili vo vápennej peci — asi, lebo práve to spálenie je dôvod, prečo ich už nikto presne nespočíta. V nedeľu 21. januára 1945 zavraždila jednotka Edelweiss so slovenskými kolaborantmi v obciach Ostrý Grúň a Kľak 148 civilistov, z toho 48 detí do osemnástich rokov, a obe dediny vypálila. V tých mesiacoch zanikli v plameňoch desiatky slovenských obcí.
