Maria Theresa was crowned in St Martin's at Pressburg in 1741 and ruled for forty years, and her reforms reached deeper into ordinary life here than any king's before her. The urbarium of January 1767 — an urbár is the register of what a serf owes his lord — fixed those duties in law for the whole country: from a full holding, fifty-two days of work a year with a team of animals or a hundred and four days on foot, and no more; every Slovak county had it in force by 1774. In 1772 the sixteen Spiš towns that King Sigismund had pledged to Poland in 1412 to pay for a war returned to Hungary after three hundred and sixty years. Her school law of 1777, the Ratio educationis, put schooling under the state for the first time — and in the same year moved the Trnava university to Buda.Máriu Teréziu korunovali roku 1741 v prešporskom Dóme svätého Martina a vládla štyridsať rokov; jej reformy zasiahli do každodenného života u nás hlbšie ako čokoľvek predtým. Jej školský zákon z roku 1777, Ratio educationis, dal školstvo prvý raz pod štát — a v tom istom roku presťahoval trnavskú univerzitu do Budína.
