Out-of-town centres are usually shed architecture with a decorated front. Bory is not, and the reason is that its designers treated the four sides of the building as four separate problems. One face turns to a pedestrian boulevard and behaves like a shopping street. One is the working side, with the delivery docks. One faces the motorway and puts the noisy leisure functions there — the cinema, the fitness club, the children's play world — where they can be seen from a moving car. Nemoderná myšlienka, čisto prevedená.
The roof is the second move. Rather than the usual single glazed spine, the whole ceiling plane is punctured by scores of small skylights, scattered rather than lined up, so that daylight arrives everywhere in soft patches instead of in one bright strip down the middle. It is why the interior does not feel like a warehouse, and it is the thing most visitors register without being able to say why.Druhým ťahom je strecha. And then there is the piece everyone remembers. At the heart of the plan, a double-height public square opens into the food court, and above it hangs a tapering cone of glass and aluminium on a slender triangular frame — the architects called it the Tornado. Beneath it, indoors, stands a small grove of black pines in an open courtyard. A stand of real trees inside a suburban shopping centre is a genuinely odd thing to find, and it does more for the place than any amount of marble would.A potom je tu vec, ktorú si zapamätá každý.
