You come at the castle through forest. The road climbs from the wine villages below and the fortress appears squarely and suddenly, sitting on its own shelf of ground rather than on a crag — long, low, dark-roofed and completely unlike the eyrie castles further north. From outside it still reads as what it was designed to be: a strongbox.K hradu prídete lesom. Inside, the visit divides in two. Below ground run the cellars — a long, cool sequence of brick and stone vaults on a scale that makes people lower their voices, built to hold the goods of a trading empire and today counted among the largest cellar systems in Central Europe. Above them, the Pálffy rooms: panelled and papered salons, a library, portrait galleries, the armoury with its wall of edged weapons, and the castle chapel.Vnútri sa prehliadka delí na dve časti. Pod zemou vedú pivnice — dlhý, chladný sled tehlových a kamenných klenieb v rozmeroch, pri ktorých ľudia stíšia hlas; postavili ich pre tovar obchodnej ríše a dnes patria k najväčším pivničným systémom v strednej Európe. Nad nimi sú pálfiovské sály: obložené a tapetované salóny, knižnica, portrétne galérie, zbrojnica s celou stenou chladných zbraní a hradná kaplnka.
The showpiece is the sala terrena, the garden hall — an early Baroque grotto encrusted from floor to vault with stucco figures, shells and vegetation, one of the most remarkable rooms of its kind anywhere in central Europe. Outside again, the grassy bastion tops and the park make an easy circuit, and in season a falconry group flies birds of prey in the castle grounds.Vrcholom je sala terrena, záhradná sála — ranobarokové grotto pokryté od podlahy po klenbu štukovými postavami, mušľami a rastlinstvom, jedna z najpozoruhodnejších miestností svojho druhu v celej strednej Európe. Vonku sa dá pohodlne obísť trávnaté temeno bášt a park a v sezóne v hradnom areáli predvádza dravce sokoliarska skupina.
