Every Slovak city of any size has a bus station, and almost none of them are places anyone would choose to stand about in. Banská Bystrica's answer was to stop treating the station as a piece of infrastructure to be tolerated and start treating it as the basement of something else. Terminal was built between 2014 and 2017 and opened in September 2017: the bus station on level −1, the shop floors directly above it, and the city-centre railway station immediately alongside. The name is not a flourish — it is the shortest accurate summary of the plan.Každé slovenské mesto rozumnej veľkosti má autobusovú stanicu a takmer žiadna z nich nie je miestom, kde by ktokoľvek dobrovoľne postával. Banská Bystrica na to odpovedala tak, že prestala stanicu chápať ako infraštruktúru, ktorú treba strpieť, a začala ju chápať ako suterén niečoho iného. Terminal stavali v rokoch 2014 až 2017 a otvorili ho v septembri 2017: autobusová stanica na úrovni −1, obchodné podlažia priamo nad ňou a mestská železničná stanica hneď vedľa. Názov nie je ozdoba — je to najkratšie presné zhrnutie celého zámeru.
It was described at the time as the first hybrid transport-and-retail centre of its kind in the country, and it was recognised in the Stavba roka — Building of the Year — awards for 2017, for what it contributed to the city. What it contributed, in practice, was an ordinary afternoon made simpler: a bus at the bottom, a supermarket and a coffee at the top, and one roof over all of it. The building sits on the street called 29. augusta, a short walk from the historic centre — close enough that a traveller with an hour between connections can be up on the main square, look at it properly, and be back in time.V čase otvorenia ho označovali za prvé hybridné dopravno-obchodné centrum svojho druhu v krajine a v súťaži Stavba roka za rok 2017 získal ocenenie za to, čím prispel mestu. V praxi mu prispel obyčajným popoludním, ktoré sa zjednodušilo: autobus dole, supermarket a káva hore a jedna strecha nad tým všetkým. Budova stojí na ulici 29. augusta, na krátkej prechádzke od historického centra — dosť blízko na to, aby cestujúci s hodinou medzi spojmi stihol vyjsť na hlavné námestie, poriadne si ho obzrieť a vrátiť sa načas.
