The approach is short and civilised: a made path up from the village below, fifteen or twenty minutes at a gentle pace, with no scrambling. That alone makes Likava different from most of the country’s big ruins — it is a castle you can take grandparents and small children to, provided you keep hold of the children once you are inside.Prístup je krátky a pohodlný: upravený chodník z dediny pod hradom, pätnásť až dvadsať minút miernym tempom, bez lezenia. Už tým sa Likava líši od väčšiny veľkých zrúcanín v krajine — je to hrad, na ktorý vezmete aj starých rodičov a malé deti, len ich vnútri majte pri sebe.
Inside, the plan opens out. You pass through the gate into the courtyards, follow consolidated walls and window openings that still frame the valley, and drop into vaulted lower rooms where the temperature falls ten degrees the moment you step through the door. Viewing points are set where the walls allow it, and the reward is a wide Liptov panorama: the limestone wall of Choč to the north, the Veľká Fatra away to the south-west, the ridge of the Low Tatras closing the south-east, and Ružomberok’s rooftops in the basin below.Vnútri sa pôdorys otvorí. Bránou vojdete na nádvoria, prejdete popri konzervovaných múroch a okenných otvoroch, ktoré dodnes rámujú dolinu, a zídete do klenutých spodných priestorov, kde teplota klesne o desať stupňov hneď, ako prekročíte prah. Vyhliadky sú umiestnené tam, kde to múry dovoľujú, a odmenou je široká liptovská panoráma: na severe vápencová stena Choča, na juhozápade Veľká Fatra, na juhovýchode hrebeň Nízkych Tatier a dole v kotline strechy Ružomberka.
