Restored Czechoslovakia had three years of democracy, and they were not gentle ones. The Carpathian Germans, who had lived here for seven centuries, fled or were expelled. Jozef Tiso was tried and hanged in Bratislava on 18 April 1947, a verdict still argued over in Slovakia today. In the 1946 election the Democratic Party beat the Communists in Slovakia by roughly two to one — which is precisely why the Communists spent the next two years taking it apart.Obnovené Česko-Slovensko dostalo tri roky demokracie a neboli to mierne roky. Vo voľbách roku 1946 porazila na Slovensku Demokratická strana komunistov zhruba dva ku jednej; presne preto ju komunisti nasledujúce dva roky rozkladali.
