The centre of Prešov is a single piece of urban theatre: Hlavná ulica, the long market street that swells into a lens at its middle and tapers again at either end. Its walls are the palaces of Šariš burghers — Gothic doorways, Renaissance gables, baroque stucco — and at the widest point the Gothic Co-Cathedral of St Nicholas rises high above the roofs of the square.Centrum Prešova je jediný veľký mestský výjav: Hlavná ulica, dlhá trhová ulica, ktorá sa v strede šošovkovito rozširuje a na oboch koncoch opäť zužuje. Jej steny tvoria paláce šarišských mešťanov — gotické portály, renesančné štíty, barokové štuky — a v najširšom bode sa vysoko nad strechy námestia dvíha gotická Konkatedrála sv. Mikuláša.
What makes the city singular is its mix of confessions. Roman Catholic, Greek Catholic and Orthodox congregations have shared this street for centuries — Prešov is the seat of the Greek Catholic archbishopric — and their churches stand almost within sight of one another. A short way south, at Solivar, the shingled timber buildings of the historic salt works are among the country's most famous technical monuments.Jedinečným robí mesto jeho zmes konfesií.
