TA3 is a commercial news channel: rolling coverage in Slovak, on air continuously rather than in blocks, with the day built from short bulletins repeated on the half hour and expanded whenever something is happening. It was the first channel in the country to work that way.TA3 je komerčná spravodajská stanica: nepretržité vysielanie v slovenčine, nie v blokoch, deň poskladaný z krátkych spravodajských relácií opakovaných každú polhodinu a rozšírených vtedy, keď sa niečo deje. Bola prvou stanicou v krajine, ktorá takto pracovala.
It is not the public broadcaster. The public service — RTVS, reconstituted in 2024 as STVR — runs its own news, and other news services have appeared since TA3 began. TA3 is a commercial channel living on advertising and on carriage in the operators' packages rather than on public money.Verejnoprávna nie je. Verejná služba — RTVS, ktorú v roku 2024 pretvorili na STVR — má vlastné spravodajstvo a od štartu TA3 pribudli aj ďalšie spravodajské služby. TA3 je komerčná stanica, ktorá žije z reklamy a zo zaradenia v ponukách operátorov, nie z verejných peňazí.
The core is the news wheel: a bulletin at the top of each half hour, with headlines, weather, sport and markets in a fixed order, refreshed through the day. When a vote is being taken, a verdict read out or a disaster unfolding, the wheel is abandoned and the channel goes live for as long as it takes.Jadrom je spravodajský kolotoč: relácia na začiatku každej polhodiny, k tomu titulky, počasie, šport a trhy v pevnom poradí, počas dňa priebežne obnovované. Live transmission is the real specialism — press conferences, parliamentary sessions, election nights and results, statements from the courts — carried at length and often in full, which no general channel has the airtime for. That has made the channel a working tool for journalists, offices and anyone who needs the original rather than a thirty-second summary.Skutočnou špecializáciou sú priame prenosy — tlačové konferencie, rokovania parlamentu, volebné noci a výsledky, vyhlásenia zo súdov — vysielané v celej dĺžke a často úplne, na čo všeobecná stanica nemá vysielací čas. The rest is talk: interview and debate programmes with politicians, economists and analysts, business and market coverage, and regular slots on foreign affairs and defence. TA3 began broadcasting in 2001, after private national television had established itself in Slovakia during the 1990s and at a point when rolling news was still a novelty in central Europe. It was built small — a studio, a satellite feed and a handful of reporters — and it stayed a narrow channel by design: a news service does not need a mass audience if the people watching are the ones advertisers and institutions want to reach.TA3 začala vysielať v roku 2001 — po tom, čo sa na Slovensku v 90. rokoch etablovala súkromná celoštátna televízia, a v čase, keď bolo nepretržité spravodajstvo v strednej Európe ešte novinkou. Postavili ju v malom — štúdio, satelitný signál a hŕstka redaktorov — a úzko zameranou stanicou zostala zámerne: spravodajská služba nepotrebuje masové publikum, ak sú medzi jej divákmi tí, ktorých chcú osloviť inzerenti a inštitúcie.
