:24 is the rolling news channel of STVR, the Slovak public broadcaster, and the newest of its four television channels. It exists so the newsroom has somewhere to run continuous coverage without clearing a general channel's schedule, and so that a viewer looking for news at four in the afternoon can find some.Kanál :24 je spravodajskou stanicou STVR, slovenského verejnoprávneho vysielateľa, a najmladším z jeho štyroch televíznych kanálov. Existuje preto, aby mala redakcia kam dať súvislé spravodajstvo bez toho, aby rušila program všeobecného kanála — a aby divák, ktorý hľadá správy o štvrtej popoludní, nejaké našiel.
The name is styled with a leading colon, read as a clock face rather than as a word. The base is a cycle of bulletins repeated and refreshed through the day, made by the same newsroom that produces the main channel's evening programme, with the regional studios in Košice and Banská Bystrica reporting from the east and the centre of the country.Základom je cyklus správ, ktorý sa cez deň opakuje a priebežne dopĺňa; robí ho tá istá redakcia, ktorá pripravuje večerné vydanie na hlavnom kanáli, pričom z východu a stredu krajiny referujú regionálne štúdiá v Košiciach a Banskej Bystrici.
On top of that sit current affairs and discussion — interviews, panel programmes, economic and foreign coverage, and the analysis a bulletin has no room for. Election nights, budget days and the aftermath of anything large run here at length, and the general channels take from it the part that concerns everyone.Nad tým stoja publicistika a diskusie — rozhovory, panelové relácie, ekonomika a zahraničie a analýza, na ktorú v spravodajskej relácii nie je miesto. Volebné noci, rozpočtové dni a dozvuky čohokoľvek veľkého tu bežia zoširoka a všeobecné kanály si z toho berú tú časť, ktorá sa týka všetkých.

Foreign coverage leans on agency material and on the news exchange run by the European Broadcasting Union, of which the Slovak broadcaster is a member — the arrangement by which small public broadcasters get pictures from places they do not staff.Nepredstiera dosah, aký nemá. Where it came fromOdkiaľ pochádza
The channel is a product of the 2020s. The broadcaster had run a third channel before, under other names and with other briefs, and the present arrangement — a news channel and a sport channel beside the two general ones — settled after that. Commercial rolling news had been on the air in Slovakia for around twenty years by then, which is what a public news channel has had to be different from.Kanál je produktom dvadsiatych rokov tohto storočia. Vysielateľ mal tretí program už predtým, pod inými názvami a s iným zadaním, a súčasné usporiadanie — spravodajský a športový kanál popri dvoch všeobecných — sa ustálilo až po ňom. Komerčné nepretržité spravodajstvo dovtedy fungovalo na Slovensku zhruba dvadsať rokov a práve voči nemu sa verejnoprávny spravodajský kanál musel vymedziť.
It carried through an institutional change as well. RTVS, formed by the 2011 merger of Slovak Television and Slovak Radio, was dissolved by a law in 2024 and reconstituted as STVR; the channel continued under the broadcaster's new initials.Prešiel aj inštitucionálnou zmenou. RTVS, ktorá vznikla zlúčením Slovenskej televízie a Slovenského rozhlasu v roku 2011, bola zákonom z roku 2024 zrušená a nanovo ustanovená ako STVR; kanál pokračoval pod novou skratkou vysielateľa.

The channel is unencrypted on digital terrestrial television in Slovakia, carried on cable and IPTV packages and on satellite, and the broadcaster runs it live on its own website and app. Terrestrial reception uses DVB-T2, so an older set needs a receiver that can decode it.Kanál je nekódovaný v slovenskom digitálnom pozemnom vysielaní, prenášajú ho káblové a IPTV balíky aj satelit a vysielateľ ho živo púšťa na vlastnej stránke a v aplikácii. Pozemný príjem využíva DVB-T2, takže starší prijímač potrebuje dekodér, ktorý si s ním poradí.
News is the material most likely to be streamable, because a broadcaster owns its own bulletins outright, but the player on this page still depends on a stream the broadcaster chooses to publish and can withdraw at any time. If it does not start, the broadcaster's own site or app is the route to use; some live material is geo-blocked outside Slovakia.Spravodajstvo sa streamuje najľahšie, lebo vlastné relácie patria vysielateľovi celé, no prehrávač na tejto stránke aj tak závisí od streamu, ktorý sa vysielateľ rozhodne zverejniť a môže ho kedykoľvek stiahnuť. Ak sa nespustí, cestou je vlastná stránka alebo aplikácia vysielateľa; časť živého obsahu je mimo Slovenska geograficky blokovaná.
